By January, many of you will be anticipating our 2023 journey. I've been looking forward to it since June '22 when Father Mark spoke to us about Masculine Spirituality. Perhaps, you too have been looking for guidance toward a Christ-centered life. Something about Father Mark's talk really started the ball rolling for me. It's not that I can boast some sort of progress, it's just that his talk landed me in a new perspective, one where I'm on the lookout for ways that God is speaking to me.
When Father Rusty talked about metanoia I heard echoes of Father Mark. You might say, "That's no coincidence." I'm learning to trust that way of seeing too.
At another point, Father Rusty said, "If you're lucky in life, something might break. Let it lead you to Christ." Maybe he said that during the point in his talk when, as a young man, he lost his financeé Michelle in a terrible car accident. We've all felt something break in our lives, sometimes devastatingly so. In his case, his loss led him to the priesthood. In my life, it led me to Saint Charles.
In 2023 may our brokenness, as well as our hope, teach us to listen and respond to greater things in Christ.
My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. John 10:27-28
