At every turn, you hear messages exhorting you to be yourself, be authentic, find your purpose, or reinvent yourself. These are all good as far as they go. But, as Christians, we need to make these choices within the context of our religious faith, not in terms of the latest self-help book, media campaign, or social media meme dictates. In other words, we can choose to be the author of our life--which will inevitably lead to spiritual ruin--or turn to the Author of Life to love us and shape us. I, for one, lived a life for decades based on what I thought was true and good. Let's just say that I'm glad God was patient with me and is helping me through my do-over.
